He was born February 8, 1929 in Freeport to Zollie and Delia Capps. Following graduation from Freeport High School, Jack served in the United States Air Force when he met and married Wanda Marie Dowell, with whom he recently celebrated their 64th anniversary. Upon discharge, Jack attended the University of Texas at Austin receiving a degree in Mechanical Engineering and was employed by the Dow Chemical Company until his retirement at age 55. During those years, Jack and Wanda lived in Jones Creek, Texas, Russellville, Arkansas, Angleton, Texas and finally moved to Jacksonville, Texas in 1992.

Jack is survived by his son and wife, David and Teri Capps; three grandchildren, Melissa Capps, Michelle Cooke and husband Shane, and Michael Capps and wife Amanda as well as two great grandchildren, Liberty and Van Cooke. Jack was recently preceded in death by his wife, Wanda. Jack was a devoted husband and father who loved to build things, travel with his trailer club and square dance with the Jacksonville Jacks and Jills. Many days would find him on Lake Jacksonville enjoying the views from the back porch while watching the squirrels run across the deck. His great wisdom and helpful hands will be greatly missed by family and friends. Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family at Earle’s Chapel from 1:30 p.m. until service time.
